Fran Bolin, MSW: Executive Director
Ms. Bolin has a B.A. in Social Work from Meredith College with a minor in Religion. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work, with a concentration in Planning and Administration and focus on criminal justice, from Virginia Commonwealth University. While attaining her M.S.W. she worked as a juvenile justice research intern for the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. She has worked with policy professionals on such issues as child abuse and neglect, juvenile competency, the needs of children with incarcerated parents and most recently, family reintegration and offender reentry. Ms. Bolin has served as the Co-Chair for the Health and Family Reintegration Work Group through the Governor’s Reentry Council and she now serves as a Co-Convener for the local Richmond Regional Reentry Council. Before joining the staff of AFOI, in January, 2001, Ms. Bolin worked as a Local Probation Officer for Community Corrections Services (CCS) in Chesterfield County and as an Intensive Education Instructor for Capital Area Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP).
Angie Strickland, MSW: Director of Programs & Development
Angie Strickland, Director of Programs and Development, has a B.S. in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Social Work, with a concentration in Planning and Administration, from Virginia Commonwealth University. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, she served as an AmeriCorps volunteer, working with inner-city youth and families, which led her to obtain an M.S.W. degree. Since obtaining an advanced degree in social work, Ms. Strickland’s work has always focused on at-risk children, youth and families. She has worked in program development, data management and program evaluation, as well as fund development and grant writing. Ms. Strickland has served on the board of the local chapter of Grant Professionals Association.
Bobby Gray: Video Visitation Program Coordinator
Bobby Gray, Program Coordinator for the Video Visitation Program, joined the staff of AFOI in January, 2017. Mr. Gray comes to us with an Associate’s Degree in Information Systems Technology from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Bobby recently retired from the Henrico County Police Department after 15 years of dedicated service. Currently he also serves the local community by volunteering on the Powhatan Little League Board of Directors as their Safety Officer, a role he has held since 2014.
Danielle Johnston: Program Assistant
Ms. Johnston has a B.S. in Social Work from George Mason University. Danielle first joined the organization in 2016 as an intern working with the Milk and Cookies Children’s Program at Woodville Elementary School. While completing her undergraduate degree at George Mason, Ms. Johnston provided case management services for low-income families in Northern Virginia at the Connections for Hope Partnership. She is currently pursuing a second degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Cristina O’Leary: Program Assistant
Ms. O’Leary joined the staff of Assisting Families of Inmates in April, 2013. She provides program support to the Executive Director and to the Video Visitation Program operations on the weekends. If you schedule a video visit at our Richmond site then it is most likely Ms. O’Leary that will greet you with a smile and assist you with your visit. Ms. O’Leary is also a dedicated teacher at a local Richmond childcare center.
